This letter is the Attorney General's order on your petition for disclosure of
records under the Oregon Public Records Law, ORS 192.410 to 192.505. For the
reason that follows, we respectfully deny your petition.
Your petition, which we received on May 18, 1993, asks the Attorney
General to direct the Social Security Administration in Medford, Oregon to make
available in copy form employment information relating to you for the years 1989
and 1990. Under the Public Records Law, the Attorney General has authority to
issue a public records order only to ". . . any person denied the right to inspect
or to receive a copy of any public record of a state a~ency . . . . " (Emphasis
supplied.) ORS 192.450(1). The Social Security Administration is a federal
agency and would be subject to the federal Freedom of Information Act. For this
reason, we must deny your petition.
Sincerely,
~.xi~
ELIZABETH S. HARCHENKO
Special Counsel to the Attorney General
